In 1973, Hovis made a commercial featuring a boy on a cargo bike delivering bread. 2010 brings Olympic champion Victoria Pendleton to the Hovis world, and she speaks here about her outlook for the World Championships in March, her work with Hovis, and growing up cycling with the family. She’s recently signed a three year contract to be the face of Hovis.

Being an international raffle, and coinciding with the tour of London to Paris as it makes its rounds, the raffle tickets that you have in your sweaty little hands are still good, it’s just going to be a little longer until you find out if you won. Grace sent me an update today, and it looks like January 31st will be the date of the raffle. I will get the winning tickets announced as soon as I get word. Seattle and Austin also have some “special prizes.”

You may remember my little book report recently.  Well if you liked that and your mind wandered to “Man, that looks like fun- to ride around with nothing more than a brakeless ordinary a few items of clothing and pistol….”  Well, I doubt that Steven Stevens (no known relation to Thomas Stevens) was packing  a pistol, but he did set out on a similar journey.  You can read about his attempts at this over a number of years, on both new and original penny farthings.  Steve’s trip was supported, but by no means an easy one.  Take a look and read up on his trip.

I like this vid. Special effects I can get behind.  The “Wizard Smoke” looks like it might leave behind some serious “Wizard Boogers” which can be worn as amulets for protection and used to fight dragons.

Not all people that ride bikes are artistically inclined.  Myself, I know what I like- but when it comes to making it myself, it feels forced.  My writing doesn’t flow from a pen as smoothly as Phil Wood bearings spin; my creativity is much more like squeezing the end of a tube of Phil Wood grease:  Wait for it…. Wait for it…. then SPLAT!- more than you wanted- all at once.

As long as I’ve been riding bikes, I have noticed that there are a number of creative individuals that choose to ride for fun, sport, or transportation.  Whether they be writer, designer, musician, or artist- bikes make sense to all of us.  I think to have such a wonderfully deep pool of talent getting around on two wheels is fantastic.  This week there are a few different opportunities to see some art by people who ride.  Each talented in their own element, as well as solid riders.  The weather looks good, so come on out.  Ride your bike.  Enjoy some art.

Come say hi to Jay and Kyle- you won’t be disappointed.  Talented artists, and solid dudes.

Karl Addison draws a lot.  He makes stickers, shirts, and things that you can put on your wall.  This will also be his last show in the US for a while, as he is moving to Berlin in March.  Yours truly will be taking over US production for Partybots International.

After taking December off, Zach is getting ready to put on the first Future Tense of the year.
